Frequently Asked Questions

What is glass memorial?

Glass memorials are a handmade piece of art created by fusing a small amount of your loved one’s cremation ashes into molten glass. At Heartheld Glass, we craft pendants, touchstones, and suncatchers so you can keep their memory close in a timeless, tangible way.

Can you use pet ashes in glass memorials?

Yes. We create memorials with the ashes of beloved pets as well as people. Many of our customers choose to honor dogs, cats, and other animals with paw print pendants, heart pendants, or custom designs.

How much ash do you need for a memorial?

We only need 2 teaspoons of ashes for most memorial pieces. Any unused ashes are returned with your finished memorial. We recommend that you always keep some ashes for safekeeping and do not send your entire supply — just in case you’d like to create additional memorials in the future.

What colors and designs can I choose?

We offer clear glass memorials as well as pieces with subtle tints or custom colors. Popular shapes include hearts, stars, and paw prints. You can browse our full collection online or contact us for a custom request.

How do I send you the ashes?

When you place your order, we mail you a prepaid ashes collection kit with clear instructions for safely packaging and returning the ashes via USPS Priority Mail Express (required by federal law for cremated remains).

How long does it take to make my memorial?

Once we receive the ashes, most memorials are completed and shipped within 2–3 weeks. Custom designs may take longer.

Will my memorial look exactly like the photos?

Because each memorial is handcrafted and each set of ashes has unique natural variations, your piece will be one-of-a-kind. Small bubbles may form naturally during the fusing process — these are part of the beauty of glassmaking and are often seen as beauty marks that make each memorial truly unique. We use the same techniques and quality controls for every memorial, ensuring a consistent style while honoring the individuality of your loved one.

How much does shipping cost?

To ensure safe and respectful handling, all ashes are shipped via USPS Priority Mail Express, which typically costs $28–$35 per shipment depending on location. We charge a flat rate at checkout to partially cover the cost for both legs of the journey — sending your ashes to us and shipping your finished memorial (and any remaining ashes) back to you. This method is required by the U.S. Postal Service for cremated remains and provides secure handling, tracking, and timely delivery.

Do you ship outside the United States?

At this time, we only offer memorials within the U.S. due to shipping regulations for cremated remains.

How do I care for my glass memorial jewelry?

Clean your piece gently with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or ultrasonic jewelry cleaners. Store your jewelry separately to prevent scratches.

Is the glass durable?

Your memorial is made from glass, so it should be treated with care. While it can be worn and enjoyed daily, please avoid dropping it or striking it against hard surfaces to keep it safe.

Can you make a memorial with hair or fur instead of ashes?

At this time, we do not offer memorials made with hair or fur — we work exclusively with cremation ashes.

Can you combine ashes from more than one loved one in a single piece?

Yes. We can blend ashes together so they’re forever joined in one memorial.
